Everything is a solid, a liquid or a gas. A solid keeps its shape. A liquid flows and takes the shape of its container. A gas spreads out to fill its space. Heating and cooling change one state into another.
- Heat: ice melts to water; water evaporates to invisible water vapour.
- Cold: water vapour condenses to drops; water freezes to ice.
- Water freezes at 0 °C and boils at 100 °C.
