By the end, you can read any bar on a chart, find totals and differences, and work out the mean of a list of scores.
Three robot teams played a season of Robo-League football. Red scored 6 goals, Blue 3 and Green 9. Sana wants one number that sums up a typical team. She levels the bars out: 18 goals shared by 3 teams is 6 each. That number is the mean.

A bar chart shows amounts as bars: the taller the bar, the bigger the number. Read the scale on the side to find each value. The mean is the fair share: add all the values, then divide by how many values there are.
- Read the scale first: one step might stand for 2, 5 or 10.
- Mean = total ÷ number of values.
- The mean is the height every bar would have if you levelled them all out.
