Percentages: parts per hundred

What you will learn
By the end, you can find 10%, 25%, 50% or 30% of an amount by dividing and scaling.
A game shows “Loading 25%” and the bar is one quarter full. Later it says 50% and the bar is half full. Per cent is a way of saying how many parts out of 100 you have, and 100% means the whole thing.
Read the explanation
Per cent means “out of every hundred”. 25% is 25 out of 100, which is the same as one quarter. To find a percentage of an amount, find 10% by dividing by 10 and scale it up, or use the fraction it equals: 50% is a half, 25% is a quarter.
- 10% = divide by 10. 20% = double 10%. 5% = half of 10%.
- 50% = half (÷ 2). 25% = quarter (÷ 4). 75% = three quarters.
- 100% is the whole amount, so 100% of 60 is 60.
