By the end, you can name an angle as acute, right or obtuse, link quarter and half turns to degrees, and estimate an angle in degrees.
Dev’s dance robot only understands turns in degrees. “Turn 90!” and it faces the wall. “Turn 180!” and it faces the back of the room. Mila wants a tiny wiggle, so she says “Turn 30!” and the robot swivels just a little. Every turn and every corner has a size, and we measure it in degrees.

An angle measures how much something turns. A full turn is 360°, a half turn is 180° and a quarter turn is 90°, the square corner you see on a book or a door. An angle smaller than 90° is acute (sharp and narrow). Exactly 90° is a right angle. Between 90° and 180° it is obtuse (wide and open). To estimate, compare with 90° and with 45°, which is half of a right angle.
- Acute: less than 90°. Right: exactly 90°. Obtuse: more than 90° but less than 180°.
- Quarter turn = 90°, half turn = 180°, full turn = 360°.
- Estimate by comparing: more or less than a square corner? More or less than half of one?
