What you will learn
By the end, you can find the rule of a repeating pattern and say which shape, colour or turn comes next.
Dev built a dance robot, but it only knows one move list: stamp, clap, spin, stamp, clap, spin. After three rounds Dev can call out the next move before the robot makes it. That is the power of a pattern: once you know the rule, you know what comes next.
Read the explanation
A pattern is a rule that repeats. To find the rule, look for the chunk that repeats and say it out loud: circle, square, circle, square. The chunk can change the shape, the colour, the size or the turn of a shape. When you reach the gap, keep saying the chunk and the missing piece pops out.
- Find the chunk that repeats, then say it out loud.
- Check every clue: shape, colour, size and turn.
- Keep saying the chunk until you reach the gap.
